The oil industry is vast. The production, refining, transport, storage, and distribution of the 100 million barrels of oil produced each day is only possible thanks to the extraordinary engineering infrastructures developed over decades.
All this involves the need for a huge volume of translations. However, it is not easy to find qualified translators in this field. Petroleum and gas engineering is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering, often combining knowledge from mechanics, chemistry, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, civil engineering, electricity, and more.
It would be impossible to find a translator who is an expert in all these disciplines, but it is feasible to rely on translators with a solid engineering background who are able to understand the text they must translate.
My studies in industrial engineering and my many years of experience as a technical translator give me the necessary knowledge to understand the text and use the right terminology in the target language.
Over my 16 years of experience as a technical translator, I have translated extensive documentation relating to the production, storage, and distribution of methanol from natural gas. These translations required solid knowledge of:
chemistry and thermodynamics, to understand the steam reforming processes that transform natural gas into hydrogen (CH₄ + 2 H₂O → 4 H₂ + CO₂)
mechanics, to translate operation and maintenance manuals for plant pumps
corrosion, since one of methanol’s disadvantages compared to other fuels is its tendency to corrode metals
fluid mechanics, to understand how methanol behaves in pipelines and gas pipelines
As proof of my work, I have translated for top industry players such as Repsol, Spain’s largest oil company and the seventh largest in Europe.
