Under European Union law, many machines and devices require CE marking and an EU Declaration of Conformity in order to be sold in the European Economic Area. The mark and the declaration are simply the manufacturer’s attestation that the machine complies with the applicable directives.
The CE Declaration of Conformity is usually included in the instruction manual, although it can also be a standalone document.
Under the Machinery Directive, this declaration—like the instruction manual—must be written in the official language of the country where the product is sold. As a result, technical translators frequently translate these declarations. I myself have translated hundreds of them.
The good news is that they are very easy to translate because the content is straightforward, and—above all—because the content is basically the same for all declarations. Please find an example below
